Beaver Scouts Chat

The Colony belongs to the Beaver Scouts who come along week after week and each one has a right to contribute ideas and share their news.

Allowing the Beaver to chat encourages:

  • The feeling of belonging to a colony of friends;

  • Valuing the contribution of each member of the Colony;

  • The making of choices by Beaver Scouts.

Over a period of time, a good colony will provide Beaver Scouts with the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to regular ‘news time’ or Log Chews;

  • Share jokes, birthdays and highlights of the week together;

  • Talk with adults about their joys, interests and concerns.

Ideas that can be used in the meeting

  1. Circle time

  2. Chat cubes, each side has something different on about the Child and when thrown the child tells about what is on that side of the cube.

  3. Make a joke book

  4. Make a Birthday book

  5. Discuss news from certain events

  6. Tell the children about important events for the Colony

  7. Discuss issues which effect the Beaver e.g. new uniform
