Beaver Scouts Make Things
Beaver Scouts enjoy making things and like improving their practical skills. A craft can be used for a number of purposes.
- To encourage creativity and imagination;
- To develop manipulative skills and hand-eye co-ordination;
- To help Beavers learn something;
- To encourage co-operation and working together;
- To make something useful for others.
Over a period of time a good colony will provide a Beaver with:
- A variety of materials media, and craft techniques;
- A mixture of copying set models and designing and making their own ideas;
- An opportunity to make things individually and in small groups;
- A chance to finish things to different standards according to their abilities;
- Encouragement to the take their things home to share with their families.
Ideas that can be used in the meeting
- To make a variety of cards for different events e.g. mothers day, Christmas, Eid and Divali
- To make models out of clay e.g. Hedgehog paper weights
- To make mobiles based on a common theme
- To produce masks e.g. of a Beavers face or dragon
- To make a variety of puppets, covering finger, shadow and hand puppets
- To use fimo to make models and badges
- To use funky foam to make pictures
- To use chalk to create a firework picture on black sugar paper
- To make traffic light biscuits
- To make peppermint cremes
- To design a t shirt
- Make night light holders out of jam jars
