Beaver Scouts Pray and Worship

Beaver Scouts are encouraged to live out their Promise to love God by talking with God in prayer and taking part in simple acts of worship. All faiths are welcome in Scouting, as are those people who are seeking to find out about more than one God.

Many Colonies have a Colony prayer that the Beavers know off by heart.

Prayer and worship with Beaver Scouts aims to raise their awareness of God and respond to him with thanks and prayers. Prayer and worship may include a number of elements - talking to God, singing, acting, listening to stories, readings and music - but should always be short, simple and sincere.

Over a period of time, a good Colony will provide Beaver Scouts with the opportunity to:

  • To join in simple prayer in colony meetings
  • Participate in short and simple acts of worship in the colony, sometimes called Scouts Own
  • Attend occasional religious services at a place of worship
  • Participate in acts of worship run by Scout District, County or Area

Ideas that can be used in Meetings

  1. To write prayers for a colony prayer book
  2. To link visits to church in with the programme e.g. to make poppies on Remembrance Parade
  3. To make a prayer box, so Beaver can put in people who need praying for
  4. To make a prayer tree
  5. To make a friendship stick
  6. To write prayers based on a theme e.g. peace
  7. To have the Vicar, Priest or Minister visit
  8. Visit the Church, Mosque or Synagogue
  9. To find out about prayer in another faith
  10. To make prayer cards
  11. To develop an act of worship to be used in Church
