Beaver Scouts Sing and Make Music
Beaver Scouts love joining in with a singsong and playing their part in a musical event. There are many types of song – action songs, rounds, yells, narrative songs, counting songs, repetitive songs and songs with choruses, all of which can be accompanied by percussion instruments. Some colonies have a special son or yell.
Singing and making music can serve a variety of purposes:
- To have fun during a meeting with no audience in mind;
- To encourage listening skills and a sense of rhythm;
- To encourage co-operation amongst Beaver Scouts;
- To perform to an appreciative audience.
Over a period of time, a good colony will provide Beaver Scouts with the opportunity to:
- Sing in a variety of types of song;
- Take part in activities using simple percussion instruments;
- Attend a campfire sing song with other sections;
- Practice for a Colony or Group performance for an audience of parents and friends.
