Programme - Beaver Scouts

The Balanced Programme

The philosophy underpinning the programme is that every Beaver Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time. The emphasis has shifted from a badge and award driven culture to one that ensures that all young people experience a quality programme covering a wide range of subjects. To help, the Balanced Programme is divided into a number of Programme Zones, methods and underlying ways of working.

The twelve methods

From Monday 16th November 2009, as part of The Scout Association's development of one fully integrated website for Members, the information contained on this page is no longer being maintained. For up to date information please visit the following link: Beaver Scouts: Programme Methods

These Zones are delivered using 12 methods, which give the programme variety and range. Sometimes one method will be more suitable than another. On occasions you may use a number of methods within the same activity. So you should give your Beaver Scouts opportunities to:

  • Help others
  • Play games
  • Explore their world
  • Undertake prayer and worship
  • Listen to stories
  • Follow themes
  • Go on visits
  • Make things
  • Meet new people
  • Act, sing and make music
  • Chat
  • Go outdoors

The Bottom Line

The Bottom Line are those things that anyone walking into your Colony meeting would see happening. You should give your Beaver Scouts opportunities to:

  • Have fun
  • Make friends
  • Try new things
  • Keep the Promise
  • Make progress
  • Share in groups

Balanced Programme Checkers

The Beaver Scout Balanced Programme Checker is a resource to help Leaders plan a Balanced Programme using all the Programme Zones and a variety of Methods. This can also be used retrospectively to check how balanced the programme is over a period of time.
