In many ways, the world in which today's Cub Scouts live is smaller than ever before. With advances in communications technology and the decreasing cost of world travel, the world is more open than it has ever been.
Global
Why should this Zone be covered?
The United Kingdom is one of the most culturally diverse nations on earth. It has strong links all over the planet - through the Commonwealth, the European Community and so on. Young people today regularly communicate with relatives and friends all over the world, through the postal service, telephone, Internet and email.
The 'Global Village'
We often refer to the world as the 'Global Village'. The aim is to encourage our Cub Scouts to see themselves as part of that village - together with the responsibilities, privileges and rights which that brings.
By helping the Cub Scouts experience the Global Zone, you can:
increase their awareness of the world and its environment
find out about other countries and their people
understand problems people face around the world.
Linking Challenge Award
The Global Challenge links with the Global Zone and Cubs need to select four of six activitie which encourages them to become more award of the wider world, and those who work for greater peace and justice on the planet.
