Below you will find a listing of events opened up to Explorer Scouts around the UK.

Please note: Events that are advertised here are not formally endorsed by The Scout Association (unless stated). This is simply a place for them to be advertised. The UK Scout Headquarters therefore takes no organisational responsibility for these events. The Scout Association is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

What are you doing?

Do you have an event coming up in your patch thats open to Explorer Scouts across the UK? If you do, please let us know about it and we'll advertise it for free!.

It's quick and easy - here's what information you need to let us have.

  • A quick text description of the event. What, Who, When, Where
  • A graphic/picutre thats roughly 120 pixels wide by 180 pixels high
  • A website link or a document containing further details (we can host documents on this site)
  • Then email the Explorer Scout office at programme@scout.org.uk letting us have all of the above, details of who you are and some contact details. We'll do the rest.

    March 2010: London Zoo project

    London Zoo Project

    What: We have a large trench to be dug and filled with concrete and boulders; the animals will be with us on this one! Reas, Wallabys, variety of birds. The other one is to help clear out all the ground in the bearded pig paddock (old Elephant house) works and refill with new wood chippings, sounds easy, (3-4 lorry loads).

    Who: This event is open to Adult members, Network members, and Explorer Scouts.

    When: March 13th and 14th

    March 2010: Active Citizens: Virgin Voters

    Active Citizens: Virgin Voters

    What: This is a chance for young people in Scouting to meet their prospective parliamentary candidates and council candidates and make their views known to both the people that want to represent them and with their peers from their community. Whether a "virgin voter" or currently involved or interested in local volunteering or national campaigns through Scouting and other organisations, this forum for young people offers the chance for you to share your views with the people that seek your support.

    We want as many young people as possible who would like to participate in Active Citizens: Virgin Voters to do so. That's why we are offering a travel bursary for young people of up to 30 pounds for young people who are travelling more than 20 miles. We will also be providing refreshments on the day.

    Who: Youth members age 14 - 25 and leaders

    When: 20th March 2010 from 11am to 1pm

    March 2010: Four Inns Walk

    The Four Inns Walk

    What: A challenging competitive walk organised by the Derbyshire Scout Association. The walk is for teams of 3 or 4 over the distance od approx. 65 km over some of the roughest moorland terrain in England - the Peak District. Times for completion of the walk can vary from under 6 hours to over 20!

    There are nine different trophies and eligibilities!

    Who: Open to ALL walkers who feel up for the challenge

    April 2010: IOW revolution

    Isle of Wight Revolution

    What: REVOLUTION a national camp for Explorer units kicks of on April Fools Day in 2010, no joke! The extended bank holiday is set to a Comedy Theme throughout the weekend with many activities that will make you laugh and bring tears to your eyes as well as other great activities that will pump adrenalin through your body!

    April 2010: Apex Overnight Challenge

    Apex Overnight Challenge

    What: Join the intense race against dozens of others teams as you spend the night completing a tough series of challenges in Sherwood Forest. From climbing to caving, mountain biking to inflatable assault courses, there'll be a whole host of adventure challenges to test your team to the limit. But watch out for the Apex Chasers who are trying to track you down and take your points away!

    May 2010: Just Walk

    Just Walk

    What: Just Walk is a 1 day UK walk consisting of a 10, 20, 40 and 60km walk. It is an exciting sponsored UK charity walk to fundraise for the charity of their choice.

    Who: This fundraising walk is open to charities and anyone who is keen to get their walking boots on and hike for charity!

    When: 15th May 2010.

    Supplement Content Opportunity

    What: In an Explorer supplement later in 2010 I plan to theme it around where in the world Explorer Scouts from the UK have visited through their Scouting.

    Who: Anyone who is planning to head away this summer to visit a foreign country or if you have been away recently and have a story to tell.

    When: You need to tell me that you would like to write some content for the supplement by the 30th of June 2010. At this time I need to know; your name, Unit name, District and Destination. I will then require your final content and photos by the 27th of August 2010

    What: This unique and popular event is for Explorer Scouts and Senior Section Guides between 14-18. Where else does the fun go on non-stop for 24 hours?

    Who: Open to Explorer Scouts and Senior Section Guides between 14-18

    When: 9th -11th July 2010

    Where: Gilwell Park Activity Centre, Epping Forest, London.

    July 2010 Dragnet

    Dragnet

    What: The Dragnet Challenge is to make your way through a narrow corridor of land in the Cumbrian Lake district covering a distance of around 35 miles. On the way you must avoid capture from teams of experienced catchers who can take one of of three life cards which will reduce your chance of winning the competition.

    Who: Explorers and Network Members

    When: 2-4 July 2010 (First full weekend in July every year).

    What: Join the exciting competition against dozens of other teams as you run round Nottingham City playing a live Monopoly game!!

    July 2010: European Scout Conference

    European Scout Conference

    What: The Scout Association is looking for two people to represent the UK at the European Scout Conference. The conference happens every three years and is held jointly with the European Guide Region. It drives the development of both movements in the Europe./p>

    As part of the UK delegation you will take a fully active role in all discussions and seminars, engaging with others and debating potential ways forward for the movement over the next three years. You may also have the opportunity to take part in the electoral process at the conference.

    This is a fantastic opportunity to experience Scouting on an international level, to meet new people, to learn how Scouting operates between the European organisations and to form lasting partnerships with Scouts and Guides from across the continent.

    Candidates will need to be passionate, articulate, engaging, willing to voice their opinion and be a dynamic part of the UK delegation. However, they need not have any prior experience of attending conferences. All expenses will be paid for and full training and support will be provided in the build up to the event.

    September 2010: Theme Park Camp

    Theme Park Camp

    What: a fun weekend! Two evenings of discos, karaoke, giant games, camp fires, fancy dress, table football, and all sorts of other good stuff. Then all day Saturday at Thorpe Park, rollercoasters and rides galore. A perfect way to start the Autumn term

    October 2010: Apex Extreme

    Apex Extreme

    What: It's one of the toughest adventure competitions in the UK where your team will be tested to the limit! You'll be tested with dozens of activities including rock climbing, assault courses, driving challenges and some brand new events for 2010. It all forms part of a weekend-long competition where your team is pitted against everyone else - speed, agility and teamwork will bring you success
