Values are things that you believe in, and which help define the way you live your life. We all have values. Some values are imposed on us by society, the law of our local community. Some may be personal values that are individual to you or values that you share with others, for example, in your Scout Network. Values may be stated in formal religious or other spiritual terms, moral terms or as personal or shared beliefs.
Programme Zone: Values
Why we have values
As you mature, your values develop and help to shape your life. This process starts when you are young and continues throughout your life. During the years when you enter higher education and start work you will experience new things. These willl help shape your personal values and your outlook on life. Your personal values define the way you treat other people and also influence what other people think of you as an individual.
How Scouting affects the development of values
Being a member of the Scout Network will help you think about your own values. As part of the Scout Network, you can help develop the shared values that form the basis of your local community and wider society.
How the Values Programme Zone benefits young people
While thinking about about values as part of other Scout Network activities you will:
- develop a better understanding of your own values and become more confident in your own beliefs.
- understand and play an active role in your local community and wider society
- respect the values of others and be more tolerant towards everyone you meet
- help define the purpose of your Scout Network. and influence how others see you.
Programme Zone: Ideas database
