Scouts have always been involved in community projects, and Scout Groups are in a position to make a difference in their community. Scouts should also be encouraged to use their local facilities, such as sports centres, swimming pools, schools and community centres.

Benefits of Activities in the Community Zone
Community projects benefit young people by:
- providing worthwhile service to their community
- increasing awareness of local opportunities
- encouraging teamwork
- encouraging Scouts to become active citizens
Linking Challenge Award
The Community Challenge links with the Community Zone, and encourages Scouts to find out about some aspect of their local community - either by visiting or hosting a visit from the chosen organisation.
This should be followed with six hours of community service to be linked where possible with the original visit.
