We are committed to supporting Group Scout Leaders in their role and as result you are invited to attend a Group Scout Leader workshop. There are a number of workshops being offered throughout England and Wales during 2008 and 2009. The purpose of the day is to inform and support Group Scout Leaders, a valued and important role in the management of local Scouting.

As we are committed to offering practical and pragmatic support to Group Scout Leaders there is no delegate cost for the workshop plus lunch is provided. The day will begin with a lively and interactive session to seek feedback on specific aspects and functions of a Group Scout Leader's role, for example recruitment; induction; the review process. The feedback gained from this session will help inform the design and delivery of future support for Group Scout Leaders.

Following this session there will be the opportunity to attend three smaller workshops. A total of six workshops will be offered to select from.

• Role of the Group Scout Leader
  Stuck in the middle? Headquarters and District pushing it all down to you? The Group shoving it all back? Take time to clarify your role and what you may need to help prioritise your work.

• Induction to review
  The first six months can be the most daunting for an adult new to Scouting, but equally the most important. Spending quality time with new adults and supporting them in becoming a member of your leadership team pays huge dividends. Learn how to do this better and also how to carry out a review with existing adults both formally and informally.

• Retention and motivation
  It can be all too easy to forget to nurture and relish the adults you already have. Learn some tried and tested ways to keep your leadership team enthused.

• Challenging behaviour in adults
  How often does a Scout Group get tied up in knots, have new ideas blocked by one individual or a stubborn point of view? Discover some strategies to manage difficult adults.

• Group development
  'No plan, no progress' said Baden-Powell. How do you work out the priorities for what your Scout Group really needs to do (and in what order!) so that in 2012 it is sound, relevant, diverse, focused, youth led and growing?

• Recruiting adults
  No magic wands but some tried and tested methods that have been used by Group Scout Leaders around the country to recruit those much needed additional adults. This workshop will also provide an opportunity to better understand how and why people volunteer.

There will be a lunchtime market place where a range of exhibitors will be on hand to provide additional information and support.

At the time of booking, you will receive confirmation by email. Booking will close 10 days before the event.

Joining Information will be emailed to participants approximately 7 days before the event.
