| Purpose: | To increase awareness of immunisation. |
| Time Required: | 15 minutes+ |
| Numbers: | 12-15 people |
| Equipment: | Three colourful tee-shirts or coloured bands for the "germs" Sticky dots in the same colours as the tee-shirts or bands. |
How to run it
- Select three people to become "Germs".
- The "Germs" put on the colourful shirts or bands; they represent:
Red: Measles, Yellow (or White): Whooping Cough, Blue: Polio. - Each other player is given two sticky dots.
- When the game starts, the "germs" have try to touch as many of the players as possible to "infect them". Every time a player is touched by a "germ" they must show the "germ" the sticky dots in their hands; if they have a dot of the same colour as the germ then they have been immunised and so can continue running, if they do not have a dot of the same colour, they have been infected and must sit down.
Feedback and Discussion
How easy was it to be infected? Did the amount of immunisation help?
Variations and Extensions
- Instead of giving everyone two dots, start with one dot and as people are infected they must stand with their legs apart. When another player crawls between their legs, they have been cured and are given another sticky dot.
- Instead of distributing the dots randomly, immunise 90% of the players against one of the diseases.
