There are many other sources of support including International Scouting Organisations, National Scout Fellowships and Development Agencies and charities.

International Scouting Organisations

There are over 28 Million Scouts worldwide and many of them have websites where you can find out about Scouting in that country.

The best way to find out whether a particular country has a website is to visit the WOSM website (www.scout.org) and click on Scouting around the World. This will take you to a list of all the Scout Associations and their websites.

Another useful website is www.youthoftheworld.net which includes a very comprehensive links section which can provide ideas for a lot of projects.

Internationally focussed National Scout Fellowships

In the United Kingdom there are a number of International Support Networks that support The Scout Association's International work. These networks should not be confused with the Scout Network, instead they are semi-formal organisations which support the development or consolidate a relationship with Scouting in a specific country (or region) or support particular threads of the international element of the youth programme.

These National Scout Fellowships include:

  • The Africa network

This promotes the expansion of International Scouting, with a particular focus on building friendships in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa. Collectively the Africa network members have experience in Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. More information can be obtained from their website (www.africanetwork.org.uk) or via the International Office at Gilwell.
  • GAPP Network

The Global Awareness Partnership Project (GAPP) aims to help young people discover the magic of doing global awareness activities. GAPP has members around the country and is willing to run Global Awareness/Peer Education activities (including training courses for older Explorer Scouts or Scout Network members). More details on the GAPP Network can be obtained from visiting the GAPP website (www.gapp.me.uk) or by contacting the GAPP helpline (help@gapp.me.uk).
  • Network Russia

The Network Russia Scout Fellowship provides support to Russian Scouting. They have an established web-based point of contact and hold meetings twice a year to spread good practice, share information and encourage developments in Russia. More information on Scouting in Russia can be found in the 'Scouting in Russia' factsheet (BP260013) available from the information Centre, via the International Office at Gilwell or via the Network Russia website (www.networkrussia.org.uk).
  • Poland Network

The Poland Network is an informal collection of Leaders and others who have been to Poland with Scouts and Guides and they've had such a great time, they are keen to ensure that others don't miss out on the opportunities that are available and waiting to be created. The Network is involved in organising, running and evaluating its own centrally supported projects and provides support and guidance to Sections establishing their own trip to Poland. The Network member's large pool of experience means that they can give you lots of helpful hints and top tips! More information can be obtained from their website (www.polandnetwork.org.uk).
  • SAMnet

The Serbia & Montenegro Network (SAMnet) is an informal collection of Leaders and others who are involved in helping to develop Scouting in South East Europe as well as organising, running and evaluating its own centrally supported projects and provides support and guidance to Sections establishing their own trip to Serbia or Montenegro. More information and activity resources can be obtained from their website (www.samnet.org.uk).
  • UK-Uganda Network

The UK Uganda Network is a group of people of all ages who are interested in promoting International Scouting and, in particular, building friendships with the people of Uganda. The Network provides an opportunity to expand International Scouting by raising awareness and promoting activities to support ideas and projects in the UK for members of the Uganda Scout Association and their communities. The Network maintains a comprehensive website at www.ugandanetwork.org.uk which is full of information, project ideas and support details - the ideal starting point to get involved.
