Shell Better Britain Campaign (Interactive Connect)
Environmental Grants
Interactive Connect is a new scheme run by Shell Better Britain Campaign, to give low-level assistance to environmental groups that "provide environment and community benefit in their work". To be eligible for these grants the group must be involved in "community based sustainable development". These grants are likely to be in the region of £150.

Vital Villages
Supporting rural communities
Vital Villages is a Countryside Agency Funding Programme, through which grants are available across England to support rural communities. Under this heading there are four grant schemes.
The four grant schemes are as follows:
- Community Services Grant Scheme
- Parish Transport Grant Scheme
- Rural Transport Partnership
- Parish Plan Grant Scheme

Active Community Initiative in Northern Ireland
The Voluntary and Community Unit in the Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland has £250,000 available for small grants during 2003/4. The aims of this scheme are to promote and support volunteering. Projects under this scheme can last for up to a year and could receive up to £10,000 in funding. The closing date is 8 January 2003.

Gannett Foundation Fund
Grants up to £5,000
Gannett Co is the owner of the Newsquest Media Group, which is the second largest publisher of local and regional newspapers in the UK. The Gannett Foundation is the charitable arm of this company. This foundation will provide funding in the region of £1000 - £5000 to support local organisations in the areas where Newsquest operates.
The Gannett Foundation will aid projects that tackle such issues as education and neighbourhood improvements, economic development, community problem solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment. Included in its priorities for this year are equipment or running costs for Youth Organisation projects. The closing date is 14 October 2002, with decisions in mid to late November 2002.

Tesco - committed to playing a positive role in the community
