The Community Recycling & Economic Development scheme

Green Grants for your Scout Group

The CRED Programme, managed by the Royal Society for Nature Conservation (RSNC) and eight consortium partners, distributes National Lottery money on behalf of the New Opportunities Fund under its Transforming Waste-funding programme. Launched in January 2003, the CRED programme aims to guarantee that £35.2 million of lottery funding, available for local recycling, refuse and composting, is delivered to meet the needs of disadvantaged communities in England, to improve their quality of life and achieve sustainable management of resources.

If your Scout Group is currently running or hoping to start a recycling or environmental project, this grant scheme may be able to help you. To request a CRED Programme application pack you should contact the New Opportunities Fund on: 0845 0000 121 or visit RSNC's website: http://www.rsnc.org/cred/

AOL Innovation in the Community Awards

How the Internet can benefit your Scout Group

These Awards have been established to enable community groups to benefit from the Internet. 15 awards worth £2,000 each are available for any project that is linked to the Online World. Every winner has the opportunity to apply for a further £5,000. The money can be used for revenue or capital purpose and your Scout Group must be a UK registered charity to apply.

For an application form please telephone 020 7348 8390 or email innovation2003@aol.com. Alternatively visit their website http://www.aol.co.uk/innovation/index.html The closing date for applications is 6 June 2003.

Fundraising Events

Holding fundraising events is an important part of Scouting. It will depend on the amount of money your Group wants to raise as to what type of event you want to organise. For more information about holding fundraising events and any legal implications take a look at http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/pdfs/fs190018.pdf

BT Employee Volunteers

Are you a BT Employee Past or Present?

Could you and your Scout Group benefit from good citizenship materials and the use of resources such as DVD players, digital cameras and free training? If the answer is yes, BT volunteers would like to help your Scout Group: Please call 01908 293713 or log on to http://www.btvolunteers.org/ or email btvolunteers@bt.com

BT has set up a Volunteering network that offers support and resources to employees past and present as well as family and friends that are involved in volunteering work in the community.
