BBC Children in Need
Funding for disadvantaged children
This year s BBC Children in Need day is taking place on the 21 November 03. Regional committees, throughout the UK, make grants to projects which help disadvantaged, young people under 18 years old. Disadvantaged includes illness, distress, abuse, neglect, disability, behavioural or psychological problems, and living in poverty or other situations of deprivation.
Applicants must have a written child protection policy. This can be found on our national webpage; ScoutbaseUK at www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2003/2_6.htm#part_1
Further information can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/apply/index.shtml.
Deadline: 30 November 03 and 30 March 04. If you want to qualify for a project in Summer 04 you must apply by the 30 November 03 deadline.
BT funding guide
A free guide to help with funding
This is a 20 page guide that has been produced by British Telecom. It could be of use to Scout Groups applying for funding from charitable trusts, local and national government, commercial organisations and the National Lottery.

Greenworks
Recycled furniture saves money for the community
Office furniture is expensive, however buying recycled items is a much cheaper option. Each year thousands of tonnes of surplus office furniture is sent to landfill, while community groups, schools, hospitals and charities are forced to spend money needed elsewhere on new furniture.
GreenWorks provides recycled furniture at cutdown prices, e.g redundant chairs, tables, filing cabinets, notice boards, coat stands. The money saved can therefore be redirected to core activities. The scheme has already helped over 600 organisations across the UK including several Scout Groups.
For instance, new desks can cost anything from £200; GreenWorks supplies them from just £20. For further information call 020 7981 0450 or visit: www.green-works.co.uk.
