The Local Network Fund for Children and Young People

This scheme provides grants to small, local community groups in England to support vulnerable children and young people aged 19 and under. The Fund aims to counter child poverty and youth disadvantage by providing opportunities for children and young people to achieve their potential.

The minimum grant available is £250 and the maximum is £12,000 with the average being £5,000. Some Scout Groups have already received funding from this scheme and it runs until 2006.The Fund has four themes, two of which fit very well with Scouting:

Aspirations and experience: activities that give children experiences, or help them achieve goals that other children may take for granted.

Children's voices: activities that give children and young people the chance to express their opinions and give advice on matters of concern to them.

Grants available for Environmental Projects

If your Scout Group is planning an environmental scheme or think they can come up with a good project (that will take place between 1 February and 5 June 2004) then please take part in the campaign. Projects could include such things as clearing woodland, planting trees and bulbs, creating footpaths and building bird and bat boxes.

Grants of up to £50 are available, along with promotional material and information on how to publicise your Group and your project.

Enhanced grants of £100 are also available for projects initiated and led by young people aged 16-25. These grants have been limited to ten projects, so register your project early.

For an application form and further guidelines please telephone 0121 328 7455 or conatct naseem@csvenvironment.org.uk. This can also count towards the Go Green NPI for 2004.

The Alma Royalton-Kisch Trust

The Alma Royalton-Kisch Trust is the only UK charitable trust dedicated solely to supporting inter-faith educational work with children and young people. Grants are awarded for proposals for inter-faith work to promote understanding and cooperation.

Only Connect

Only Connect is a small bursary scheme that enables voluntary organisations to explore ideas on income generation in a simple, fun and practical way.

They will pay up to £100 travel and subsistence expenses for employees or volunteers of one organisation to visit another voluntary or community organisation that can demonstrate an existing track record in income-generation. They will also give the visitors £150 to pay the host organisation a consultancy fee for their time.
