This is a department of the British Council that promotes nonformal exchanges of young people in the United Kingdom and other countries. It is important to note that any Group that is planning an exchange will need to follow the set of guidelines available from the above website. If the Group has already organised exchanges outside of these guidelines then they will not be eligible for funding.
Promoting reading in Scotland
Grants to increase reading at home
In Scotland, schools and community groups are being invited to apply for funding to promote home reading and literacy. The small grants scheme will provide start-up costs for sustainable projects that encourage home reading. Staff costs, travel and subsistence will not be funded. Application forms are available from:

People's Places Award Scheme
The Charity BTCV is awarding grants on behalf of the New Opportunities Fund for 1,000 People's Places projects. Grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 are available for project costs, training, community consultation and other support ranging from insurance to tools.
To be eligible your Group should:
- be in a deprived community (for more details on this visit the website www.btcv.org/ppawards),
- create/improve a "People's Place",
- involve volunteers in doing the work,
- be accessible to the wider community,
- have community benefits,
- have environmental benefits,
- be located in England only.
Please visit the BTCV website (www.btcv.org/ppawards) and read the eligibility guidelines letter and the scheme guidance notes. An application form (called an eligibility form) is also available from the website. Applications need to be sent to:

BTCV holds monthly decision panels, except in August and December. As the scheme ends in May 2006, the Group project must also finish by then to be eligible.
