The Big Kickabout
A day of football themed entertainment, promises to be an event to remember for young people of all ages in Scouting. Taking place on 22 May at the home of Queens Park Rangers, the fun will include mascot, celebrity and professional matches, live music and special guest stars. And that's not all! The Chief Scout, Peter Duncan, will be captaining a team against a side put together by ex- Liverpool player Craig Johnston. Both are recruiting their dream team and are determined to win The Big Kickabout Shield!
All money raised will be equally split between the Scouts and CLIC - Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood. Log on to www.scouts.org.uk/bigkickabout to find out how to book tickets.
Territorial Army
Projects for training in the North West
The Royal Engineers unit of the TA are looking for projects to test their skills on. They have experience in constructing numerous plant orientated projects including car parks, roads, earthworks for playgrounds and football pitches and they recently helped demolish a Scout Hut in Walsall.
The TA trains at weekends. Scout Groups or Camp sites will have to supply any materials required and will also be required to arrange appropiate insurance cover.
The 75th Engineer Regiment RE (V) is based in Manchester and has squadrons in Liverpool, Walsall and Stoke on Trent. All projects have to be cleared by the MOD, so sufficient notice is required. Initial enquires should be made to:-
Sgt. Jason Shawcross

Communities Facilities and Activities Programme For Wales
The Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP) is a grant scheme operated by the Welsh Assembly Government to help community and voluntary organisations provide facilities or carry out activities that will promote the regeneration of communities.
The programme is open to voluntary and community groups and provides funding for the provision of local community facilities. Financial support is available for a range of facilities and activities including:
Creating or refurbishing facilities, which must be available to the community as a whole, or adapting them to ensure equal access to disabled people, as required by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995;
Providing facilities or activities which aim to reduce poverty, inequality, discrimination and social disadvantage;
Encouraging training that targets vulnerable and excluded members of the community.
Grants are distributed on a quarterly basis and range between £2,500 and £100,000 per year and will also consider funding projects spread over 3 years. Application forms can be obtained from:-
The Welsh Assembly Government Regeneration Unit.
