In December 1999, to ensure the ongoing health of one of the few remaining Gilwell Oaks, tree surgery was carried out. As a result, the small amount of workable timber generated has been used to produce a very limited supply of Gilwell Oak woodbeads.

These woodbeads are supplied in a metal hinged presentation case of blue velour, which bears the Fleur-de-Lys logo. They are ready tied with a friendship knot on a superior quality leather thong. The beads come with a certificate of authenticity incorporating a picture of Lord Baden-Powell beneath one of the Gilwell Oaks. Each Wood Badge comes with its own unique identification number.
