Regional Development Officers (Home based) - West Midlands and North East

Starting salary £20,514 rising by annual increments to £25,252, plus company car.

The Scout Association has just created a new vibrant Regional Development Service and is now looking to complete the Regional Development Officer team with two posts across the following Regions:

North East (Northumberland, Cleveland, Durham, Humberside, Central/South/North/West Yorkshire)
West Midlands (Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Mercia, Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcester)

This is a home-based post and successful applicants will be expected to live within the Region. In this role you will contribute to supporting, instigating and delivering focussed development plans and opportunities in the Region by working with both volunteer and staff colleagues across the Region.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload. You will be enthusiastic and able to enthuse others. Past or present adult membership of Scouting or Guiding is essential together with an understanding of issues facing youth and community services. The job will involve working unsocial hours; you must be able and willing to travel extensively, including spending frequent nights away from home

Programme and Development - Administrative Assistant

Starting salary: £14,737 per annum inclusive of London Weighting Ref: 08/024
Location: Gilwell Park, Chingford, London

An opportunity has arisen for a full time Administrative Assistant to work in the Activities and International Affairs team in the Programme and Development directorate. Reporting to the Head of Activities and International Affairs you will mainly provide administrative support to the team.

With good typing skills (accuracy is more important than speed), you will be able to draft and produce routine correspondence, prioritise your own workload and be able to work to tight deadlines. In addition to being computer literate it is essential that you have a flexible approach to work and a willingness to learn new skills. Previous office experience with a good knowledge of office procedures and routines is essential. This is wide ranging role with constant variety, it will require someone who enjoys taking responsibility for clearly specified areas of work and is able to work on their own initiative.

The post offers the kind of benefits you would expect from a large organisation including pension, free lunch and parking. A free bus service is also provided, which takes staff to and from Chingford station.

Programme and Development Adviser x 3

We now have three exciting opportunities available, based in a modern office surrounded by 100 acres of attractive parkland.

The role of a Programme and Development Adviser encompasses a wide range of different work areas and provides opportunities to work across the organisation on projects to support our volunteer membership. Examples include the production of resources, development of national policies and the provision of direct support to our membership. The role requires excellent communication skills, an ability to work with staff and volunteer teams and to provide support, advice and information to the wider Movement. You will also have the opportunity to represent Scouting and work with external organisations.

There are three vacancies in the Programme and Development Directorate...

  • 6 to 25 Programme - Working as part of a staff and volunteer team, the successful applicant will work to implement, develop and support The Scout Association's programme for 6-25 year olds across the UK.
  • Activities and International - The opportunity to primarily work to support the international dimension of Scouting, ranging from furthering our developmental education work with Non-Governmental Organisations and partners to supporting adult Leaders delivering internationally focussed programmes in the United Kingdom and international opportunities abroad.
  • Adult Support - The opportunity to contribute to The Scout Association's work on the recruitment and retention of its adult volunteers, with a specific focus on the training and ongoing support provided nationally.

The ideal candidates would have some knowledge of Scouting and/or wider youth/volunteer work, good communication skills, the ability to manage their own workload, enjoy working in a team, and possess good presentation and communication skills. The role also involves some travel across the United Kingdom

Lead Instructors

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a key part of the Scout Activity Centres team.

The successful candidate will join us at an exciting time as we really drive forward our activities program. You will have a real passion for working outdoors with young people, providing activities that are fun, educational and safe.

This position involves supporting and motivating a small team of staff some of whom will be long term volunteers. You will work alongside the team to ensure the delivery of activity sessions and programmes to a broad range of guests. Not only will you be providing excellent informal outdoor learning experiences but also providing feedback to instructing staff to ensure they develop their own skills.

Fundraising Campaign Co-ordinator

The Scout Association Fundraising Department is expanding to match its tremendous success over the last six months.

This post holder will report to the Head of Fundraising. You will provide support for the entire team with a wide range of specific activities and events, managing the expansion of the database - crucial to the growth of our campaign.

You will be the first port of call for enquiries, and provide pro-active event support and administration for events. You will coordinate meetings and print runs and maintain basic relationships with all our donors. You will have to manage our banking - ensuring donations are logged properly.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload. Most importantly you will be enthusiastic and able to enthuse others... buying in to the Department's mantra of being "positive, determined and focussed".

The job will involve working some unsocial hours.

Interactive Editor/Writer

Salary: £19,905 pa including London weighting

You'll enjoy generating inspiring articles, features and podcasts, editing copy and developing user generated content across our three websites. You'll also edit ScoutingPlus - the Association's e-newsletter sent to 40,000 members each week. Supporting the development of www.kidsoutdoors.com you will also have a key role in our campaign to inspire a million new outdoor adventures.

You will have:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a strong visual sense
  • Knowledge of content management systems, web design and some HTML
  • At least two years experience working in a journalistic, creative environment
  • Knowledge of usability and accessibility issues
  • Experience of writing specifically for the web
  • An empathy with the aims of the charity
  • Understanding of email marketing tools, online campaigning tools, e-commerce solutions or online auction providers.

Administrative Assistant - Programme and Development

Starting Salary £14,737 (Band 7.1) inclusive of London Weighting, pro-rata
Location: Gilwell Park, Chingford, London

The Programme and Development Directorate are seeking to appoint an additional Administrative Assistant, for 28 hrs/4 days a week.

This post holder will report to the 'Development Grants Board Grants Manager'. You will work with the Manager to provide support for a range of grant types, processing and recording applications, payments and reports.

This post holder will support the members of the Development Grants Board, which includes both senior volunteers and staff. Duties include organising travel and accommodation for visits to projects across the UK. The role will also include supporting the Manager in organising Induction and other support events for members of the Local Development Officer Network and Project Management Teams, who are based across the UK. Additionally and generally you will provide information to enquirers about new applications and deal with enquiries about current grants and projects, particularly in the absence of the Manager.

As you can see this is wide ranging role with constant variety. It will require someone who enjoys taking responsibility for clearly specified areas of work and is able to work on their own initiative. You will also be required to liaise with a range of staff, Headquarters volunteers and members of the Movement generally.

We are seeking someone who is confident and able to manage these types of activities. You will also need to be efficient, well organised and able to use your initiative to solve problems. Deadlines are also an important part of this role and you must be able to recognise this and ensure that the appropriate support is provided on time and to quality and detail.
