If you would like to leave a bequest to The Scout Association we recommend that you use the following wordings, although of course your solicitor may adapt them according to your individual needs.
Recommended wording for legacies
Specific Legacy to The Scout Association;
"I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to The Scout Association of Gilwell Park, Chingford, London. E4 7QW (Incorporated by Royal Charter) the sum of _________________________________________________________________________ for the General Purposes of The Scout Association AND I DECLARE the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper Officer for the time being shall be a good discharge to my Executors".
Residue of Estate for the General Purposes of The Scout Association;
"Subject as foresaid I GIVE AND BEQUEATH The whole (or a ___________ share Of the residue of my Estate whatsoever and wheresoever both real and personal to The Scout Association of Gilwell Park, Chingford, London. E4 7QW (incorporated by the Royal Charter) absolutely for the General Purposes of The Scout Association, AND I DECLARE that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper Officer for the time being shall be a good discharge to my Executors"
We realise that some people may wish to give a gift to a specific Scout Group with which they have been associated. Generally, in these cases we recommend that the legacy is given to The Scout Association with the request that it is used for that particular Group. When we receive a legacy with this kind of wording we automatically send it on to the Group concerned.
Legacy in favour of a Scout Group, District Scout Council or County Scout Council
"I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to The Scout Association of Gilwell Park, Chingford, London. E4 7QW (Incorporated by Royal Charter) the sum of _____________________________________________________________________________ for the General Purposes of The Scout Association and I EXPRESS THE DESIRE but without imposing any trust that the said sum shall be used for the _____________________________________________________________________________________ Scout Group/District Scout Council/County Scout Council of The Scout Association AND I DECLARE that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper Officer for that time being of such Association shall be a good discharge to my Executors
NB If the named Scout Group has ceased to exist at the date of death of the testator it is our normal policy to apply the legacy for the benefit of Scouting in the same locality unless the Will says otherwise.
