Scout Fire Safety Badge - Chubb Fire

Chubb is proud to sponsor the Scout Fire Safety Badge.

Chubb Christmas Card competition

[Card design showing a Christmas Tree and Fire]

The 5th West Wickham Beaver Colony, Kent, has won Chubb Fire's Christmas card competition. The competition was open to all Scout Groups across the UK as part of Chubb Fire's ongoing sponsorship of the Scout Fire Safety Badge.

To enter, Scout Groups were invited to design and make a Christmas card showing 'festive fun on a theme of fire safety'. The winning Group displayed fun artistic flair in their drawing of a safe Christmas home, which featured hosepipe tinsel and fire helmet tree decorations!

In recognition of 5th West Wickham Beaver Colony's entry the Group was presented with a cheque for £500 by Jane Garland, Marketing Manager from Chubb Fire. The prize money is to be spent on equipment or an activity based on a water theme for the whole Group. The winning design will also be used for Chubb Fire's Christmas card, which will be sent out to hundreds of its customers nationwide.

The 30th Warrington Scout Group won the second prize of £300, and the 1st Hensingham Scout Group won the third prize of £200. Congratulations to the winners and runners up and thank you to all the Scout Groups across the UK who took part.

Chubb Fire Scouts Enthusiasm for New Safety Badge - 17th February 2004

On Tuesday 17th February a host of local dignitaries including the Chief Fire Officer for Greater Manchester and the Mayor and Mayoress of Manchester will descend on the Urbis Centre to witness a party of 45 Scouts become the first in the UK to complete the new Chubb Fire Safety Badge.

The Badge requires the Scouts to understand what causes a fire, how to call the Fire Brigade, how to use fire blankets and extinguishers (and which extinguisher to use for different fire types) as well as fire safety for the home. Steve Gill, Chubb Fire's Training Officer, will be on hand to give a live fire demonstration to explain the different types of extinguishers enabling the Scouts to complete their Badge qualification.

Chubb Fire's new three year sponsorship deal with The Scout Association will see it providing new educational literature and posters, to more than 7,200 local Scout Groups across the UK, as well as practical help from the company's nationwide network of offices and engineers.

John Spencer, the Managing Director of Chubb Fire explains: "Our expertise in the field of fire safety means that we can really offer the Scouts some practical assistance in running the badge. Each year our engineers service over four million extinguishers in the UK and we are keen to get involved in working with the Scouts and the community on a local level."

John added: "The importance of fire safety can not be underestimated with over 14,000 people killed or injured in domestic fires each year. The Fire Safety Badge offers the Scouts some important practical advice on fire prevention, detection and escape routes should a fire break, all of which could potentially save their lives, or the lives of others.

"I am proud to present the first badge and certificates to the Scouts who have qualified today. I very much hope that these badges and certificates will be just the first of many that will be presented over the coming months and years."
