BT CONNECTS TO SCOUTING
22nd September 2000
Cub Scouts from London will be given a glimpse of communication in the future thanks to BT in a special event at the Dome on Friday 22 September.
BT is sponsoring the Cub Scout Communicator badge, with the aim of helping young people understand the importance of communication. The skill of communication is one that will help young people throughout their lives.
To gain the badge Cub Scouts will have to learn and demonstrate a number of skills, including using a public telephone, asking and understanding instructions and taking a telephone message correctly. They will also have the new option of gaining the Advanced Communicator Certificate.
BT's sponsorship will last for two years. It will be launched at the Millennium Dome's Talk zone, the zone sponsored by BT. Boys and girls from the 1st Forest Hill and 10th Lewisham Cub Scout Packs will take part in a video link with the National Commissioner for Cub Scouts, Ian Railton.
The launch will also be attended by Jane Gizbert, The Scout Association's Director of Communication, and Phil Buchi, from BT's FutureTalk team.
