European Scout Committee

19th December 2000

The Scout Association is considering nominating a candidate in the forthcoming elections for members of the European Scout Committee.

The European Scout Committee is part of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and operates throughout Europe in support of Scout associations and of the policies of WOSM. There is significant joint work in Europe with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

There are six volunteer members of the Committee, and they work closely with a small staff of eight people, based in Brussels and Geneva. The term of office is three years. The role involves working with different nationalities and cultures, and requires flexibility and a good sense of humour. Committee members travel within Europe and can expect to be away for about thirty days in each year, mostly but not all at weekends. There is significant advantage in having e-mail facilities and competence.

The elections take place at the next European Scout Conference in July 2001 but nominations need to be made by Headquarters in February.

The Association is committed to participation by young people at all levels of Scouting, and we especially welcome expressions of interest from members of the Movement aged under 30.

If you are an active member of The Scout Association and think you are able to carry out these important duties, please get in touch, giving details and your reasons for believing you should be nominated.

Interviews will be held after the preparations of a shortlist. Please address any interest in the first instance in writing by post to the Chief Executive, The Scout Association, Gilwell Park, Chingford, London E4 7QW. The closing date is Friday 12 January.

Please feel free to circulate this information widely within your own networks, but note the very tight closing date.
