The 60 Venture and Queen's Scouts undertaking round-the-clock State Duties in the supervision of condolence books and floral tributes in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster, will gather outside Baden-Powell House, Queen's Gate to line the route of the Royal Cortege as it travels to Windsor on Tuesday 9 April.
The young men and women from all the London Scout Counties, Kent, Essex, Surrey, East and West Sussex and Hertfordshire worked in three shifts to achieve round-the-clock coverage for the duration of the Lying in State of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Their contribution will end in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
By then, the Scouts will have been on duty for over 100 hours during which time it is estimated that they will have met over a quarter of a million members of the public and VIP visitors to Westminster including members of the Royal family.
This is a colossal achievement for all the young people concerned and they have themselves elected to remain at Baden-Powell House at the end of their duties to undertaken this final mark of respect.
