Greater access to news and information welcomed by the Chief Scout
25th October 1996
The UK Scout Association's first officially recognised presence on the World Wide Web goes live on 26 October with the launch of ScoutBase UK.
"ScoutBase UK is an exciting new way for many of our 650,000 Members to access the latest news and information created by our Movement", said Chief Scout George Purdy, launching the new facility during a meeting of Scouting's top decision making body. "It provides a very significant tool to improve communications and strengthen our national and international links," he told the Committee of the Council, meeting at the Gilwell Park International Training Centre.
ScoutBase UK has been developed by a team of volunteer Scout Leaders working in partnership with the UK Scout Association to provide a permanent presence on the World Wide Web.
