British Energy today announced that the company is to sponsor the Scout's Public Relations proficiency badge.
14th February 1997
The sponsorship will be launched at an event taking place at Heysham power station involving over 100 Scouts from around the north west. The Scouts have been invited to take part in four workshop sessions designed to give them an insight into the world of public relations.
To win the badge, Scouts have to undertake a variety of events including making a five-minute presentation; obtain some media coverage of a scouting event; assist with a Group or district promotional event and carry out a local survey to determine the image of scouting.
Doug McRoberts, British Energy's public relations director, said " We are delighted to announce this sponsorship. The British Energy Group enjoys the reputation of having an excellent PR set-up and hopefully through the sponsorship of the badge, and the workshop sessions at Heysham, we can pass on just a little of our experience and knowledge."
He continued; "I wish all those who try to win the badge every success, if I were 30 years younger I'd certainly give it a go myself - but I think I might have to do a bit of revision first!"
Note: British Energy produces around one-fifth of the UK's electricity. It has two subsidiary operating companies, Nuclear Electric and Scottish Nuclear operating eight of the most modern nuclear power stations in England and Scotland.
