Chain saws may only be used by persons aged 17 years of age or over. They must wear the correct safety equipment which must include safety helmets and footwear, protection for eyes and face, legs, arms and hearing, all of which must meet the appropriate British or European standard.

Users must have obtained an approved qualification or be undertaking an approved course of training.
