Queen's Golden Jubilee - 'Make a Difference'
Free copies of the special pack for the Queens' Golden Jubilee celebrations were sent to Districts in October. There is one pack for every Group.
Richard Butler, National Commissioner for Scouts, explains,
"The pack will allow for programme planning for 2002. It is filled with ideas and information about celebrating the Golden Jubilee of our Queen and Patron. GSLs will need to discuss with leadership teams how best to use the information and programme ideas that work in conjunction with sectional programmes.
The theme for the celebrations is the Commonwealth of which our Queen is Head. The pack reflects this with activities that are divided into three areas:
- Lets Celebrate
- The Commonwealth
- Our Future
Each activity can be used to make a difference to your local area. The aim is to enable young people to develop an understanding of the world in which we live and commonwealth countries in particular. The experience will enable the whole group to work together on the project and can be used to gain the International Friendship Award.
More information on The Queen's Golden Jubilee pack and badge is featured on Page 80 of October SCOUTING Magazine.
Look out for the pack and have fun by ... Making a Difference

Organised by the Tree Council, NTW is all about increasing enthusiasm for trees. There are thousands of events to take part in around the country, or if you have space why not plant your own trees?
For more information why not visit the website at www.treecouncil.org.uk that gives all the details, including games, virtual cards, an activities pack and of course tree planting instructions. There is also a Tree Week Hotline on 020 7828 9928, so get digging!

Sea Scouts - Funding to Keep Afloat?
The Scout Association has various funds allocated to Scout Groups across the country for an assortment of funding needs. The Trinity House Fund is specifically for non-Royal Navy recognised groups. It assists Groups in obtaining boats and equipment or helps contribute towards the cost of training courses. Due to the lack of requests, the money that is put into this fund is decreasing. If you fit into the criteria and are in need of some financial help for your Sea Scout group please contact the Fundraising Department at Gilwell Park or e-mail natasha.belenkin@scout.org.uk.
Windsor Parade 2002 - Section Leaders Sought
The Association needs some new Section Leaders for next year's Parade. If you are a Queen's Scout, have a sense of humour, have not been a Section Leader at Windsor before and are aged between 20 and 30 then read on...
You must be smart, with full uniform ("old" or "new"), have a clear voice, be able to march (or willing to learn) and able to relate to and communicate with people of Venture Scout age. You must be available for the weekends of 23/24 March and 20/21 April 2002.
The Windsor Parade in 2002 promises to be a great event. As well as all of the UK Queen's Scouts, Her majesty has allowed us to extend invitations to each of the Commonwealth countries, so there will be Queen's Scouts present from many countries as well as the UK.
STILL INTERESTED? Then put one of the two selection events into your diary: 5 January 2002, in Wales (exact venue yet to be determined) or 20 January 2002, at Gilwell Park. To get the full details for either event, please contact Peter Rogers at Gilwell Park. (peter.rogers@scout.org.uk or (020) 8498 7100)
