Global Challenges

Cub Scout Global Challenge

Details of the requirements for the Cub Scout Global Challenge are given in "Pack Essentials" and in the Badge Library elsewhere on Scoutbase.

To help you with this challenge, here are a few ideas for each of the options...

Work of an International Charity

Check out the following Agency websites, they all have education sections, which produce a range of resources and activity packs, many also have websites for young people and local volunteers who are always keen to come and talk to groups.

  • Action Aid (Priorities are Peace, HIV/AIDS, Food Rights, Education and Emergencies)
  • Amnesty International (working to promote Human Rights worldwide)
  • British Red Cross (providing aid, relief and care in crisis)
  • Christian Aid (Working to combat a number of global issues including Refugees, Health, Farming, Trade, Peace issues, Environment, Child power, Fair trade and Disasters.)
Christian Aid also has a website especially for young people.
  • Comic Relief (More than just Red Nose Day, Comic Relief is committed to helping end poverty and social injustice in the UK and the poorest Countries in the World.)
  • Oxfam (working with others to overcome poverty and suffering.)
    Currently campaigning on Fair Trade
Find pages for young people at Cool Planet.
  • Save the Children Fund UK (Focusing on Children's Rights and associated topics)
  • UNICEF (Focusing on Children's Rights and Global Citizenship).
Check out The Rights Site for information about young people and their rights.

Another Country

Use your local community!

  • Is there someone who is from another country or has links with another country?
  • Have the Explorer Scouts or Scout Network members in your County/Area been abroad or involved in a partnership project abroad?

Find out about Africa, Serbia, Russia and the Arab region through the networks.

Conserving Energy and Water

Scout Global Challenge

Details of the requirements for the Scout Global Challenge are given in "Troop Essentials" and in the Badge Library elsewhere on Scoutbase.

To help you with this challenge, here are a few ideas for each of the options...

Making Contact

There are many ways to make contact with Scouts from countries outside the United Kingdom and other pages in this section give more details. To help you find your way, here are a few links...

Alternatively,

  • You might contact your local campsite as they may have international scouts on staff or Scouts from abroad may be coming to camp this year?
  • You might contact your local Explorer Scouts/Scout Network as they may have been abroad or been otherwise involved in a partnership project abroad
  • Your local community might have contacts with another Country (through Twinning arrangements or local contacts) and able to pass details of overseas Scouts.

Finally, if none of the above work, contact you local ACC/AAC (International) for some more ideas.

Global Issues

Visit the Global Issues page of this website for some ideas of Global Issues, a short background and links to websites with further information and Activities.

Scouts may also wish to undertake some of the opportunities in The European Scout Region scheme "Lands of Adventure".
