Scouting and the Asian Earthquake

13 Oct 2005:The UKSA has been approached asked by a number of Groups and Individuals wishing to fundraise. At this moment in time, the UKSA advice is to encourage donations to the DEC (or the relief agency chosen by each individual): http://www.dec.org.uk/

In due course, we shall be guided by WOSM on what aid for Scouting will be required in the areas affected and will advise the membership accordingly: the first priority must be to support the immediate relief effort.

Groups and Units are advised to read FS260026 - Responding to World Disasters which gives guidance to help leaders provide a measured approach to the response to emergencies and disasters if they wish to help.

9 Oct 2005: The UKSA have sent the following message to the Scout Associations of Pakistan and India

"We have all been following the news about yesterday's earthquake, with the great loss of life and homes for so many people. Our prayers will be with all those affected - please accept our sympathy and this expression of our solidarity with the people of Pakistan.

We shall be encouraging our members to help with the relief effort in all ways possible and hope that what we can do will help in this emergency.

Please pass on our sympathy to your Association.

Yours sincerely
David Bull
International Commissioner"
