Lands of Adventure - You Are Europe

Lands of Adventure is a new European programme for Scouts and Explorer Scouts aged 11 to 16, Its aim is to assist in enriching the scout programme with a European dimension and to contribute towards the development of a well-balanced, attractive, and relevant programme for the Scout age section in Europe. The European Scout Region has been working on the development of this new programme since September 2001 and it is the result of a long process of consultation involving the participation of numerous European Scout Associations (including the UK).

Lands of Adventure integrates very well into the Balanced Programme, giving support to such areas as the Global Challenge, the Creative Challenge, and the International Friendship Award. It could also be a good linking activity between Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

Lands of Adventure is a challenge open to Scouts from all over the European Scout Region, which includes the United Kingdom as well as all the countries from Ireland to Greece, Portugal to Finland, and Turkey to Israel.

There are three youth challenges within the Lands of Adventure: Express EURself, EUR Hopping and Europe@EUR.door.

Registration and Support

Lands of Adventure is mainly web-based (Click here for the main LoA website at http://landsofadventure.eu). All you need to do to register for the Lands of Adventure challenge is to decide how many/which of the three parts of Lands of adventure tothey wish to take part in, and then fill out a simple form. Scouts can register in patrols or interest groups, and there is no charge. Everyone who registers will receive a special badge from the European office in Geneva to show that they have accepted the Lands of Adventure challenge and have set off on the journey

When a patrol/group has successfully completed the project they send a report to the LoA Ambassador (see below), and they will then all receive the next badge.

Each country has a nominated person, called the "Lands of Adventure Ambassador", who has all the information regarding the programme and who can answer most of your questions, and provide you with support.

The United Kingdom's LoA Ambassador is Kevin Wallis, a member of the International Core Team. Kevin can be contacted by e-mail (kevin.wallis@avonscouts.org.uk) - Do not hesitate to contact him as he will be more than happy to support your participation in the programme and to assist you all along the way!

Express EURself - Your creative step into Europe

Express EURself is a project planned and undertaken by patrols in their own programme, based on the theme of "Discovery". Patrols produce their project in any media format of their choice - such as video, music, sculpture, art, dance, mural. All the results will be included on a CD-Rom which will be sent to all participating patrols. It will also be streamed on the Lands of adventure website and so has the potential to be seen by anybody anywhere in the world.

Express EURself will hopefully enhance young people's awareness of belonging to a worldwide movement; it provides Scouts and leaders with ideas and suggestions for future activities and projects.

EUR Hopping - make new friends in Europe.

The aim of EUR Hopping is to encourage Scouts from different countries to make contact and design a common project which involves

  • establishing contact
  • regular communication
  • joint decision on a common project
  • agreeing a project implemented in co-operation between the Scout patrols/groups which involves common preparation of the project, implementation of the the project and common evaluation and follow-up

The patrols/groups might meet "really" or "virtually".

Europe@EUR.door - Europe is closer than you think

Europe@EUR dooraims to encourage Scouts to learn more about Scouting and explore the culture of other European countries. Information has been provided by the 2004 "host countries" (Greece and Portugal) and it is hoped that more will be added to the Lands of Adventure website. Scouts from all over Europe are invited to plan and implement a project that is specific to the chosen host country (or if they wish, any other country of their choice).

Europe@EUR.door invites young people to explore deeper the realities of a country and Scout Association by trying activities / projects related to the "host" country.

Europe@EUR.door enhances the project approach for the Scout age section and adds a European value to the existing youth programme.
