The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 countries and a further 24 states from across the world. Half the population of the Commonwealth is under the age of 25, and Scouting exists in every Commonwealth country.
How can we help to make an understanding of the Commonwealth a living experience for young people who are in UK Scouting today?
Every year, on the second Tuesday in March, Commonwealth Day is celebrated in every member country - and for some, it is also a public holiday! What ideas could we use in our programmes to celebrate this event?
There are several organisations that have a key role in supporting and developing the role of the Commonwealth; the Commonwealth Institute, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council, the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum. It is well worth checking their websites for further information.
Some independent Commonwealth countries have relatively small Scouting populations and have continued to be an Overseas Branch of UK Scouting. Other Branches are to be found in British Overseas Territories
There are a number of Scouting projects in Commonwealth countries that you or your Group may wish to support by raising money.
