NCVO responds to the economic crisis

To discuss the economic crisis and its impact on civil society, NCVO has invited sector leaders and government representatives to a summit on 24 November.

With over 50,000 civil society workers struggling to repay their debts, NCVO and the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) have launched a new partnership providing a debt solution service for NCVO members to offer to their employees, volunteers and beneficiaries. A four step initiative urges people not to ignore debt problems but rather to get independent help and advice from CCCS.

NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington said: “This partnership with CCCS offers our members the opportunity to support their employees struggling with debt and take the first step to help themselves."

Charity leaders are increasingly concerned about tackling the credit crunch. NCVO’s latest quarterly Charity Forecast Survey, out in October, revealed charity leaders’ increasing uncertainty in the future of the sector and the financial security of the wider UK economy. Thursday 6 November 2008

Meeting of creditors called

The administrators of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander (KSF), Ernst & Young, have called a meeting of creditors at 11am on 1 December 2008 at the Cafe Royal.  The purpose of the meeting is to gain creditors approval for the administrator's proposals for achieving the purpose of the administration and to form a creditors committee.  Tuesday 18 November 2008

Cats Protection to set up a group as a class of creditors

Cats Protection is urging any organisations who have deposits in Icelandic Bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander to join them. Charities affected will benefit from communicating and working together as a group, for example in presenting a unified voice as a class of creditor to the administrators. This group will also inform the charity umbrella organisations (including NCVO) who are representing the charities' interests in their conversations with government. Tuesday 18 November 2008
