More News from Snowdonia & Anglesey
Work is progressing on the formation of a new Beaver Colony and the revitalization of a struggling cub pack at Dolgellau. Four new Beaver leaders and one new Cub leader have been well received in the community amongst most, an initial presentation in English resulted in the nationalistic Welsh mothers withdrawing children - mid meeting! A lesson well learnt by the development team, an accompanying bi-lingual leader will be along side in future.
A new Cub pack & Beaver Section for Valley on Anglesey has been established. Three new leaders, ahead of the official launch after summer holidays, are presently receiving their training.
A struggling group at 1st Caernarfon, is now receiving help including a new waiting list policy, which aims to restrict new youngsters joining sections whilst ratios are being broken - unless of course parents of new youngsters join as leaders! We have recruited three new adults in this way to date.
Gladstonbury Festival 2004, Willesden District, GLMW
Gladstonbury was the first of this year's Brent Festivals, and again a good opportunity for Scout Groups in Willesden to work together. This year saw the 20th and 37th joining forces to put on an excellent Scouting display. Each Group used graphic displays to show off some of the recent projects that they have been doing. Thanks go to the DESC (Peter Blundell) who helped design the Explorer Scout Display.
The Development Project Co-ordinator also designed some very good display boards to promote a positive angle on Scouting.
When we arrived at the site we were slightly disappointed, as it seemed as though we had been placed to one side, but as the day continued people started to take more notice of us and we started to get more interest.
A big thank you to all of the Leaders that gave up their day to support the event, in total we managed to get 4 prospective new Leaders and numerous leads for young people from the day. All leads will be followed up with a phone call and copies of the leads will be given to the relevant Groups.
We also lent the British Red Cross a tent for the day, and in return they promised to run a First Aid course for young people and adults in our area. Even though it rained for part of the day I am sure that we will be back next year.
Nick Blundell
Willesden District Development Coordinator.
