Willesden District, GLMW
We have been increasing the types of places in which we can reach adults who may be prepared to help us. We have placed notices in police stations and exhaust centres. Pictures on the walls of three MacDonalds restaurants; leaflets and Scouting magazines in local doctors, dentists & opticians all with stickers saying if you want to know more call....
In three months we have had 4 new adults and about 10 young people join. One lady who called into the police station to register a complaint, is now on the way to becoming an ACSL.
Cheviot Project, Berwick on Tweed, Northumberland
After a successful school promotion and parents night, we are starting a new Cub Pack and possibly a Beaver Colony as well, in September.
In another village where we have been able to start Cubs and Beavers already, we are now opening Scouts for them to follow on to. And after a four-year break in the town itself, we are restarting a Cub Pack

Kent
Kent Scouts have worked actively to promote diversity and to open up Scouting to all interested young people across the County. The County team has developed links with the Sikh community in Gravesend, organising a range of activities and events, with the aim of establishing a Scout Group in the future. An ACC Diversity has been appointed.
Kent County Show
We participated in the Kent County Show 16/17/18th July 2004. We used the MDU to promote Scouting and as a recruitment tool. In the course of a normal show we recruit 100 children/adults. This year we took the names of over 250 people.
"What's your Flava?" is a Learning and Skills; council event aimed at year 9 students. We shall be promoting Explorer Scouts, Young Leaders and the D of E scheme to a potential 10,000 young people from Kent.
Abigail Curran has produced a GSL's handbook containing information covering all aspects of Scouting. It is available on CD Rom to all Groups in Kent.

Develop vb. - to......grow or cause to grow gradually
Concentrated efforts have been put into the recruitment of adults and the practice of advertising for support in Libraries, Volunteer Bureaux and with poster campaigns. This has paid dividends in the Districts, which have taken it up. They have benefited from recruitment of committee members, potential leaders and helpers.
A small amount of funding from the 'Transforming Youth Work Fund' has enabled young people from the housing estates of Harrowby and Earlsfield in Grantham and Fenside to benefit from a taste of Scouting. After school and activity days supported by many volunteers from the County have had a real positive effect on these youngsters.
The South Witham 'After School Club' Project, funded through 'New Opportunities Fund' has now finished with much acclaim and the intention to re-launch the club after the summer break.

Quality Award
The Quality Award was first discussed in Oct 2003. It came about as way for the Grant making bodies to measure the success and quality of the project. It soon became apparent that it was also a great way for Groups/Sections to gain achievable recognition on a regular basis. It is aimed at all ages, is obtainable by all and does require Sections to work together at times. It is meant to supplement your current Programme.
