Mixed Scouting

Mixed Scouting

We are all dedicated to helping all young people fulfil their potential and become confident, responsible citizens. To achieve this aim, we need to ensure that there are as few barriers as possible to them joining the Movement

Girls have been members of The Scout Association for over 30 years, and today the majority of Groups are mixed. From the 1st January 2007, all Groups should make provision for all young people to be accepted into all Sections.

On this page you will find resources and information that will help you develop mixed Scouting in your Group.

Resources

One Movement Working Together

There is a range of resources available to help you develop mixed Socuting in your Group

The One Movement Working Together web site contains information and materials that you will find useful whether your Group is already mixed, or if you are just starting to look at admitting girls from the 1 January 2007. This resource was also sent out as a CD-Rom with the December 2005/January 2006 edition of Scouting.

You can find more information about the changes to the mixed Scouting policy in the booklet One Movement working together, which was sent out with the April/May 2005 edition of Scouting. Extra copies can be downloaded here:

Training

Module 7: Valuing Diversity of the Adult Training Scheme contains information about the mixed Scouting policy, and explores the steps that you need to take to develop Scouting for all young people. Module 7 is a compulsary module for all adults working towards a Wood Badge, and it can also be used to count towards your ongoing learning.

There is more information about the Adult Training Scheme on the Trainign section of ScoutBase:
