Adult Support - Review

Retirement

It may be that for a number of reasons, it would be best for the adult to step back from an active role in Scouting for a while, or permanently. This should be identified and agreed during the discussion in a review.

It may be that they have been involved for a long while, and would like to take a break. It is much better that this is discussed and agreed, with the door left open for them to return again when circumstances change. If this is identified early enough, then it more likely that they will return to Scouting, rather than if they continue in a role that they are no longer enjoying.

There may be reasons why you believe the individual should be temporarily suspended, or retire from Scouting completely where reassignment is not an option. In this instance, you should be clear as to your reasons and approach the subject sensitively but firmly.
This recommendation should be made to the Appointments sub-Committee for consideration.

The Appointments sub-Committee also has a role in considering the lifting of a suspension, or cancellation of the appointment - its support and advice can ease the decision-making load of the Commissioner involved and reduce the likelihood of accusations of personal prejudice.
For more information on the role of the sub-Committee in this process, please refer to The Appointment Process - Guidelines for Appointments sub-Committees.
