This course is aimed at those who are, or will be, devising and delivering learning experiences (such as Course Directors), both formal and informal. The course covers Modules 31 Planning a Learning Experience and 32 Delivering a Learning Experience in the Adult Training Scheme. The week long course offers the chance to look at the steps you need to go through in planning and delivering any learning experience. The programme also covers learning styles, creative methods of delivering learning and the issues surrounding managing a team of people planning and delivering an experience.
Training Courses at Gilwell 2007
Managing Learning
This course is aimed at those who have responsibility for managing a learning provision in a geographical area (County/ Area/Regional or Local Training Managers). The course covers Modules 33 Planning a Learning Provision and 34 Managing a Learning Provision in the Adult Training Scheme. The course takes a strategic look at the issues that affect Training Managers, including the learning needs of an area, constructing a plan, managing a large team of people to meeting needs, reviewing the effectiveness of the plan and quality control.
Red Cross Trainer Training
This course is aimed at adults who want to provide First Aid training to both young people and adults within The Scout Association. The course provides Leaders with a British Red Cross Practical First Aid certificate and a recognised British Red Cross Trainer and Assessor Award. This allows adults to run and award British Red Cross awards to other Members of The Scout Association, as well as providing adults with the necessary qualifications to run First Response courses. Adults will require a current First Aid certificate of First Response level or above and will need to have gained or be working towards their Presenting and Facilitating modules.
Section Leader Training SLT7-1: Scouting Skills
This weekend course is designed to equip you with the practical skills to lead a Section. Primarily the course focuses on Nights Away and Activities, but to enhance your knowledge also covers practical skills ranging from using stoves and lamps to axes and saws. Modules 16, 17 and 18 of the Adult Training Scheme are covered.
Section Leader Training SLT7-2: Programme Delivery
Section Leader Training gives you advice and support for running your Colony, Pack, Troop or Unit. Throughout the course you will work in cross-sectional or sectional groups depending on the nature of the subject. Typically the course covers a wide range of subjects, from the Fundamentals of Scouting to planning and running an exciting programme. The course environment offers the opportunity to try new ideas and theories so that when you return home you will do so with lots of new information, skills and knowledge. Modules 5-9, 11-15 and 19 of the Adult Training Scheme are covered.
Section Leader Training SLT8
This Section Leader course gives you practical information, advice and support for running your Colony, Pack, Troop or Unit. During the week-long programme you will operate in cross-sectional or sectional groups depending on the nature of the subject. You will be able to try out new ideas and theories and you will return home with a host of new skills that you will be able to directly apply to your role. The following 14 modules of the new Adult Training Scheme are covered: 5 - 9, 11 - 19.
District Explorer Scout Commissioner Training
Get to grips with District Explorer Scouting. This course is aimed at those who support and manage an Explorer Scout provision within a Scout District. Over the weekend, participants will work together to gain skills and knowledge directly related to the Explorer Scout Section and the role of the District Explorere Scout Commissioner. Topics covered include the specifics of the DESC role, Partnership Agreements, managing a Balanced Programme and more.
Whilst this course will cover some elements of the modules from the Adult Training Scheme, it will not cover any in their entirety and will not cover the basic training required for this role.
The purpose of this course is primarily to receive updates on the latest information about the Section, share good practice with others in the same role and take away ideas and actions to implement in your District.
Managing and Supporting Scouting
This course is for adults in Scouting whose role is to manage and/or support other adults, for example Group Scout Leaders, Commissioners, ADCs and ACCs. The course concentrates on the issues of management - managing people, budgets and projects. It also covers other key areas such as communication skills and how you can practically grow the Movement in your role. You will receive advice and information from experienced managers to help you in your role locally. Modules 05-09,19-23 are covered and, depending on role, either module 24 or 26.
